"DONE WITH THE DEVIL"
Retail: $17.99
New Discounted Price: $12.99
“Make no mistake about it; Jason Ricci is the Best Thing to happen to Blues Harmonica in decades.” – Andy Grigg / Real Blues Magazine
“Shawn Starski is the perfect foil for Ricci, an inventive guitarist who achieves great tone, has a long reach, and can express a number of styles, from psychedelic and funk to rocking or blue.” - Cashville
"a fiery, thrilling and boundary-smashing rock band...Ricci takes the harp into terrain with squonks and squalls that sometimes sound more like horns or guitars than harmonica.” - Dave Richards / Erie Times-News
“It’s almost like Blues Traveler, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and O.A.R. slammed some tequila and had a 15-pound love child, decided they couldn’t keep it, and then placed it in a steel barrel and sent it down to the river to be raised by aging black blues kings and their families.” – Graffit
Now with the arrival of “Done With The Devil," Jason Ricci & New Blood deliver their most ambitious project to date. Recorded at the rustic Shadow Lane studio in Nashville, Tennessee, New Blood explores an album filled with even darker imagery than its predecessor. Prepare yourself for a journey unlike any other as the band throws into the fold all matter of instrumentation including chromatic, diatonic, chord and polyphonia harmonicas; tuba, bass harmonica, electric and upright bass; electric, acoustic and dobro guitars; Hammond B-3 and various percussion. Longtime fans can also revel in the surprising vocal debuts of guitarist Shawn Starski and drummer Ed Michaels. A truly collaborative effort, “Done With The Devil” represents another significant step forward musically for the band; an album that Jason Ricci mischievously exclaims “is a record that even a rhinoceros would like!”
Jason Ricci & New Blood are always pushing the limits and breaking musical boundaries. Take a glimpse into a Jason Ricci & New Blood live show and see for yourself what all the buzz is about.
“Retro soul tinged in country, funk and blues.”
– Rolling Stone Magazine
"To say that Bigham is heir to multiple traditions is a major understatement...He seamlessly merges influences and eras, and the results can be heard on his fine new album Black John...The groove is, indeed, the thing. It's relentless...and Bigham brings it on every track." – Paste Magazine
“(The Soul of John Black’s)...anguished wail will grab your gut and turn it inside out.” – Esquire Magazine
The Soul of John Black’s musical history boasts an impressive resume. He’s written songs for Miles Davis and played percussion in the Davis group. His track “Jilli” is featured on the trumpeter’s last studio album “Amandla,” and he appeared on the Davis DVD, “Live in Paris,” recorded at the 10th Paris Jazz Festival. Bigham also played guitar and keyboard for the pioneering rock-funk-ska band Fishbone for eight years, contributing songs, guitars, keyboards, background vocals and production expertise to several of their albums, and later toured as a side man and played on sessions with artists as varied as Eminem, Dr. Dré, Rosey, Joi, Nikka Costa, Bruce Hornsby and Everlast.
The Soul of John Black is a celebration of the African American musical heritage. On “Black John,” JB masterfully combines soul, gospel, funk and hip-hop, while tracing its roots all the way back to its humble origins - the blues. JB infuses his uniquely crafted music with contemporary urban rhythms and hauntingly earthy acoustic slide guitar which at once pays tribute to a bygone era of such legendary figures as Leadbelly, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters, while boldly crossing over into new innovative territories and sonic frontiers. Backed by notable musicians Adam McDougal on keys (Black Crowes, Macy Gray, Maroon 5, Nikka Costa), Oliver Charles on drums (Ben Harper, Rhythm Roots All-Stars), Scott Seiver on drums (Nikka Costa, Inara George), Jake Najor on drums (Carl Denson, Connie Price, Breakestra), Shawn Davis on bass (Beck, Nikka Costa), Davey Chegwidden on percussion (Rhythm Roots All-Stars, Bitter Sweet, Ghost Face Killer, Big Daddy Kane), and Bill Botrell on 2nd guitar (Grammy winning producer for Sheryl Crow, Shelby Lynne, and many others), The Soul of John Black has reached a new plateau; transcending the crossroads and arriving upon an unexplored intersection on the aural highway. It’s soul music for a whole new generation.
Together with producers David Z and Tony Braunagel, Mike Zito potential is fully realized and complimented by an assemblage of world class musicians that can best be described as “The Dream Team.” Joining Zito on “Today” are bassist James “Hutch” Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, Joe Cocker), keyboardist Benmont Tench (Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash), drummer Tony Braunagel (Eric Burdon, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal) and Michito Sanchez (Joe Walsh, Elton John, Crosby, Stills & Nash) on percussion.
“Zito’s voice is smooth and sexy, and yet his razor-sharp guitar licks are totally badass. He’s like a ninja assassin dressed up like Fred Astaire!” -- Michael Molenda, Editor in Chief, GUITAR PLAYER
"Mike Zito is one of the best singer/songwriter/guitarists I have ever heard." - Walter Trout

“…proof that the incarnation of Jimi Hendrix is a woman.” – Jazz News
"Yugoslavian-born Ana Popovic is not only a superb singer and songwriter, but also a very capable guitarist who can flatpick fluid jazz lines, craft deep-pocket slide grooves, and bend strings with SRV-style emotion.” - Guitar Player
After tirelessly touring the U.S. and Europe for the past two years Ana Popovic now returns with her follow up effort "Blind For Love," produced by Mark Dearnley (AC/DC, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney) and Ana Popovic. Here Ana offers up a little something for everyone including blues, rock, jazz, funk and gospel, and is joined by members of her regular touring band - Ronald Jonker (bass) and Andrew "Blaze" Thomas (drums), plus special guests Tony Braunagel (drums) and Mike Finnigan (Hammond B-3) from the Phantom Blues Band. Slated as the best night of music in Park City during Sundance, the after party thrown by Big Sky Motion Pictures was a tremendous success! Festivities began during the afternoon of Monday, January 19th with the sneak preview teaser of Big Sky Motion Pictures' upcoming film, "Spring Break '83". The showing was a total hit, leaving viewers raving about the comedic genius of writer/director, Mars Callahan and yearning to see the final product!
That evening the party started off just right with Eclecto Groove artist, Mike Zito kicking off the lineup with cuts from his newest album, "Today". Up next was The Soul of John Black. With only a short amount of time on stage, JB and his band put out a solid 20 minutes of dynamic music featuring cuts from his Eclecto Groove release, "Black John", due out in February! Zito and JB set the tone for what would be a rockin' night of who's who in the music business.
Headlining the show was rock-star supergroup, Camp Freddy. The band featured a plethora of rock legends, including guitarists Steve Stevens of Billy Idol's band, and Billy Duffy of The Cult, bassists Billy Morrison of The Cult and Circus Diablo, and Chris Chaney of Jane's Addiction, drummer Matt Sorum of Guns n' Roses, The Cult and Velvet Revolver, vocalists Donovan Lietch Jr. of Nancy Boy, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, and Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray. The show featured special appearances by pro snowboarder/skateboarder, Shaun White on guitar and none other than guitarist and founding member of ZZ Top, Billy Gibbons. Label exec Randy Chortkoff had the pleasure of sitting down and talking music with Gibbons before the show!
Camp Freddy indulged the audience in a number of classic covers, including Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever", apparently a Robert Redford request, Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell"and "White Wedding", the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog",Jimi Hendrix's "Foxy Lady", ZZ Top's classic, "La Grange" and covers of songs by the Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop, Van Halen, Motorhead and others. The band even dedicated their version of the Cars' "Just What I Needed" to Barack Obama, in honor of his inauguration the next morning! All in all, it was a spectacular night of music that will remain in the memory of those lucky enough to experience it for quite some time! And what a thrill to be a part of it all.
"The holidays are over and we enter the New Year with high expectations for both Delta Groove Music and Eclecto Groove Records. With our country in the midst of tumultuous times economically and the constant media blitz reminding us that the record business is through, I can honestly report that we close 2008 recording record profits for both labels. We are mindful of the fact that many people in America, as well as in other countries, are worried about their own future. But, while acknowledging that, we see a bright and unlimited future for our artists and our labels. Music will always be a force in our lives, no matter what transpires elsewhere, and our hope is that our music will continue to brighten the moment for our fans throughout the world.
Eclecto Groove Records, though barely in existence for two years, has shown consistently encouraging numbers over the past year and 2009 will bring us new albums from Ana Popovic and Jason Ricci, as well as a mid-February release from The Soul of John Black, an exciting new sound from John Bigham. Already receiving major airplay a month prior to its release, we feel this album can be one of our most acclaimed albums yet.
Ana Popovic is set to record a new album in late February in Los Angeles with the legendary David Z handling its producing chores. David Z, of course , has impressive production credits, including albums by Prince, Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, Mike Zito and Etta James, as well as co-producing Ana’s first album, “Still Making History.” That album remains our number one and best selling album and had an impressive run last year, spending 19 weeks on the Billboard Blues Charts, at one point hitting #3.
Ana plays a prominent part in the new documentary, “Turn It Up,” aka “Tone,” a story of the power and passion of the guitar and the perfect tone. I had a chance to see a preview of the current, although temporary, trailer narrated by Kevin Bacon, and featuring the likes of Les Paul, B.B. King, Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, Slash, Nancy Wilson, John Memili, Jerry Cantrell, John 5 and Robby Krieger, and of course, Ana. Check out Ana’s segment: http://loudandlouder.com/videos/Ana.mov."
As Mars Callahan and his creative force behind Spring Break ‘83 continue to edit and trudge forth with the post-production aspects of the film, we’ve noticed that the movie seems to be taking on a life of it’s own! As more and more people view footage of the film the general feedback is that it seems like a 100 million dollar movie. In reality, the film is being made for a fraction of that cost. Between the aerial shots, water stunts and sinking of an entire set, it could be easily alluded that the movie was made by a major film production company for a major motion film budget. As we continue to edit the film, we’re getting a clear picture of which shots remain to be picked up. As soon as we are confident that we’ve got all shots covered, we’ll jump back into production of the film, shooting the remaining portions in Los Angeles. In the meantime, Randy Chortkoff has been busy in the post-production room with writer, co-director, producer and actor, Mars Callahan, editing and getting a concise idea of where we will utilize the music of Ana Popovic and Mike Zito, in addition to their role as the house band in the film. Stay tuned for updates as you definitely don’t want to miss this coming of age spoof comedy complete with the artists and music of Eclecto Groove Records.
